The Rehabilitation Medicine Department of Yueyang Hospital of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, affiliated to Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, is the “The Twelfth Five-Year Guideline" key subject of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine Program named by State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the “Important & Supported” project of National Health and Family planning commission of China, the clinical base of Traditional Chinese Medicine Rehabilitation, the only Class A tertiary comprehensive medical institution for industrial rehabilitation in all five rehabilitation institutions designated by the Shanghai municiple government

　　The department is the work unit for the vice chairman of Shanghai Association of Rehabilitation Medicine(SARM), the work unit for the chairman of Shanghai Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, Branch of Chinese and Western Medicine Rehabilitation, and also the outstanding unit of Standardized Construction of Rehabilitation Medicine in Shanghai. In addition to these titles, the department has one Shanghai Famous TCM Doctor Studio.

　　The department focuses on the clinical care and scientific researches in the rehabilitation of stroke, low back pain, orthopedics, etc. The department owns more than 23 million RMB of facilities for rehabilitation assessment and treatment which can be considered as in the top row of the whole country. It made a breakthrough based on the treatment of the dominant diseases in the traditional Chinese medicine, applying the research of rehabilitation biomechanics, spinal rehabilitation, rehabilitation exercises to the treatment of neuromuscular system diseases, to enhance the clinical efficacy of traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation. On the basis of inheriting the traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation, we absorbed the advantages of various treatment strategies from home and abroad, in order to form a complete Chinese medicine rehabilitation system and to achieve the “quality” on the development of traditional Chinese medicine rehabilitation.

　　Our department is one of the earliest units to carry out “rehabilitation medical talents program” in China. Since 2001 the courses of rehabilitation technology set up, we have cultivated more than 1,000 rehabilitation professionals at all levels, such as undergraduates and graduates students. In 2010, The School of Rehabilitation Medicine was built in the Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine(SHUTCM) that currently can be seemed as the most outstanding high-quality rehabilitation talent training base in Shanghai. In 2016, the School of Rehabilitation Medicine acquired the certification of international organization, World Confederation for Physical Therapy(WCPT), World Federation of Occupational Therapy(WFOT) in the courses of physical therapy and occupational therapy, being the first to complete the courses differentiation in rehabilitation education in Shanghai. Meanwhile, the department set up many foreign cooperation and exchanges programs with overseas countries, like the long-term academic cooperation with Towson University(US), Duquesne University(US) and the University of North Texas(US). The level of the staff structure of our department can be considered as endsville in Shanghai, even in the whole country's rehabilitation departments. The department has 14 staffs who own master's degree and 5 staffs with doctorates degree, including 8 masters who graduated from Duquesne University in the United States.

　　The team of our department obtained scientific research projects on the municipal provincial,national, and other levels. Till now the funding of the research has reached nearly 20 million RMB. Talking about the outcomes of the research, the team has published more than 50 scientific articles; complied nearly 20 textbooks, such as “Rehabilitation Medicine”, “Introduction of Rehabilitation Medicine”, “Rehabilitation Assessment”, “Rehabilitation Nursing”, “five-minute osteopathic manual”, etc; acquired several national patents. The projects of our department received a number of scientific and technological progress award. Besides those, many staffs take important roles in groups and associations of rehabilitation in China. We hold two continuing education courses for advanced technology training each year. Under the efforts of the past years, the department not only achieved a breakthrough in the main research direction, but also take the leading and exemplary role in domestic medical rehabilitation.
